New Roots Potassium Iodide Dietary Supplement :
Potassium iodide (KI) can be used to protect the thyroid from radioactive iodine released into the air in the unlikely event of a radiation emergency. In very small amounts, iodine is essential for the proper functioning of your thyroid gland. In a nuclear emergency, potassium iodide is effective in reducing radioactive iodine attacks on the thyroid. It comes in easy-to-swallow tablets (Source Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission). Potassium iodide only protects the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine; it is not effective against any other nuclear substance. Depending on the nature of the emergency, potassium iodide is a protective measure that can be used alone or in combination with other protective measures (Ibid).
Now with the new high potency, 65mg emergency formula:
Potassium iodide is a thyroid blocking agent for use in a nuclear emergency resulting in the release of radioactive iodine.
Suitable for the protection of the thyroid against exposure to radioactive iodine.
Includes age group-specific dosing information. Not for everyday use; for use in a nuclear emergency only.
