Léo Désilets - Milk Thistle

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is a plant of the Asteraceae (or Compositae), the only known representative of the genus Silybum (some authors, however, mention a second species, Silybum eburneum.) Milk thistle is traditionally used in herbal medicine as hepatoprotective agent.

Who should use Milk Thistle?

Milk thistle is recommended for people with liver problems.

Traditionally used to treat disorders of the liver, spleen and gail bladder including hepatic, splenic or renal congestion, gallstones, hepatic pain and swelling.

After a century of culture, it is in 1968 that researchers isolated themselves in a plant flavonoid complex (consisting mainly of silybin of silychristin and silydianin) which was given the name silymarin and has been regarded as the active substance responsible the therapeutic effects of milk thistle. It is of silymarin in all parts of the plant, but it is particularly concentrated in the mature seeds. In most clinical trials, we used a standardized extract containing 70% to 80% silymarin.

Composition of Milk Thistle (Léo Désilets);
Dyspepsia (digestive disorders)

Dried ground seeds. Take 12 g to 15 g per day (equivalent to 200 mg to 400 mg of silymarin per day), in 2-3 times.
Decoction. Boil for 30 minutes 3.5 g of seeds in 150 ml of water. Drink 3 to 4 times a day, half an hour before meals.
Tincture (1:2 or 1:3, 70% ethanol). Take 1 ml or 2 ml, 3 times a day, half an hour before meals.
Standardized extract (70% to 80% silymarin). Take 140 mg to 210 mg, 1 to 3 times a day, half an hour before meals.

Dosage
One capsule with each meal. Take with a full glass of water
