There are in excess of 2,000 varieties of reishi, with red reishi being a rare find in the wild. Ling Zhi, as it’s called in Chinese, is now cultivated according to methods that guarantee its therapeutic quality. This traditional method is the recognized method to dissolve chitin, the resilient membrane that encloses the active ingredients of the fungus and which can be irritating and potentially allergenic, even when crushed.

Directions of Use

Adults: Add 3g of reishi (approximately a 12 cm strip) to ½ litre of water. Simmer for 10 to 20 minutes to make a tonic, or several hours to make a concentrate. Temperature range should be between 50 and 70 ºC; never a rolling boil. Serve hot or let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate the unused portion for up to 14 days. To avoid digestive upset, take with food or a meal.
